Owners of All Ages, Professional Backgrounds and Points of Origin Now Call The Mark Condominiums Their Downtown San Diego Home
San Diego (PRWEB) June 25, 2008 -- Regional population studies predict there will be nearly 46,000 residents in downtown San Diego luxury condos (http://themarksandiego.com/html/) by 2010, including people of all ages, professional backgrounds, and points of origin. Nowhere is that diverse range of urban dwellers more apparent than at The Mark, located in the heart of downtown San Diego's East Village.
Bankers and other finance industry professionals, doctors, business owners, attorneys, engineers, Realtors, public safety officers, and even a couple of professional athletes comprise the growing roster of homeowners who have migrated from different area suburbs to downtown San Diego's luxury real estate (http://themarksandiego.com/html/) community -- specifically to become homeowners at The Mark.
The reasons are numerous and varied. The Mark not only exemplifies the finest in contemporary design, solid construction and luxurious amenities, it is a two-block walk to the neighborhood's anchor attraction, PETCO Park, home of the San Diego Padres baseball team.
That's one reason Dr. Walter Emery, and his wife, Marilyn, last year moved from a San Diego suburb where they had lived for 47 years to enjoy San Diego urban living (http://themarksandiego.com/html/) in the gleaming 33-story, metal-and-glass tower that offers sweeping views of the ballpark, San Diego Bay, downtown and Balboa Park.
"We're big Padres fans and had been watching what was taking place in downtown San Diego for the past few years - well before construction began for The Mark," said Mrs. Emery. In fact, the Emerys reserved their San Diego luxury condo (http://themarksandiego.com/html/) at The Mark two years before ground breaking.
Today, their 29th -floor home offers a panoramic view overlooking PETCO Park and to the bay beyond.
"We wanted something new and different and we were familiar with the Douglas Wilson Companies' reputation for building quality and value in the San Diego real estate market (http://themarksandiego.com/html/)," she said.
Baseball games are not the only downtown attraction the Emerys enjoy.
"We like being able to walk a short distance from our new home to the restaurants and stores that are close by," Mrs. Emery said.
Nine floors down from the Emerys, National City firefighter Jeremy Day enjoys all the rich, urban amenities of his 20th-floor high-rise residence, including its dramatic northward view overlooking downtown San Diego.
"The Mark is very chic with a lot of lifestyle amenities and quality everywhere. It really stands out compared to the other new San Diego condos (http://themarksandiego.com/html/) surrounding it," he said.
Day moved from a single-family detached house in a San Diego suburb to The Mark so that he could "be in the middle of everything" and not have to drive as much. "I like the convenience and simplicity of it all," Day said. "When I want to work out, I go to The Mark's fully equipped gym downstairs. When I want to go to the pool or have a barbecue, those facilities are right here. I also can walk across the street or up the block to see friends or I can choose to have privacy and stay at home."
Second-home buyers also find The Mark the place to be among downtown San Diego condos (http://themarksandiego.com/html/), including Jerry and Pamela Carollo who keep their 18th-floor condominium for weekend getaways.
Carollo, a high-tech company executive from North San Diego County, and his wife had owned a condominium loft at Parkloft, another downtown San Diego real estate (http://themarksandiego.com/html/) project in East Village built earlier by the Douglas Wilson Companies.
In addition to spending most of their weekends at The Mark, Carollo often spends weekday nights there before catching an early-morning plane from Lindbergh Field.
Aside from enjoying The Mark's many amenities, including their sweeping view of Balboa Park, the Carollos are bicyclists who enjoy rides throughout the San Diego community.
"We'll take off for Point Loma on a weekend morning; stop to have breakfast along the wharf; ride a while before another stop for lunch and then barbecue something when we return home later. We'll then go somewhere for a drink to cap off the evening," Carolla said.
The Emerys, Day, and Carollos chose their residences from the 53 one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans ranging from 739 to a spacious 2,430 square feet. Their homes, as well as the 241 other residences at The Mark, feature German-made Studio Becker cabinetry, GE stainless steel appliances and gas cooktops; upgraded GE Monogram appliances in specific residences on the 20th floor and up; nine-foot ceilings in units on floors 2-19, 10-foot ceilings for those on the higher floors. Kitchens have granite slab countertops. Bathrooms feature beautiful limestone surrounds for showers and tubs and high-quality Toto bathroom fixtures.
Common area features include secure parking for 427 automobiles on three subterranean levels, a 24/7lobby attendants, concierge, onsite general manager, interior courtyard area complete with swimming pool and hydrotherapy spa.
Prices range from the mid $400,000s to more than $3 million. The Mark is located at 800 The Mark Lane, between Eighth and Ninth avenues, and Island Avenue and Market Street.
