Qipit Partners with eMail Our Military to Help Families Share Documents, Memories via Mobile Technology
San Francisco, CA (PRWeb) March 6, 2008 -- Qipit (http://www.qipit.com), a free mobile online copy service that turns a camera phone or digital camera into a portable scanner, has partnered with eMail our Military (eMOM), (http://www.emailourmilitary.com) a nonprofit grassroots movement, to help families share precious memories and important documents with their service member stationed far from home. Qipit is helping eMOM train participating members how to use their camera phones or digital cameras to share everything from legal documents to children's artwork and handmade greeting cards.
"When service members are deployed rapidly, they often are unable to complete all the necessary arrangements prior to a long absence," says Trish Forant, president of eMOM. "There may be lease agreements, insurance documents or health records that need to be transmitted quickly. We were impressed at Qipit's ability to lessen the frustration of handling some of the difficult details of daily life."
Military families can use Qipit to scan an important personal document, quickly save it in a PDF format, and then email it to a family member stationed overseas or fax it to personnel at a U.S. military base.
In addition to scanning and transmitting documents, the free service can also be used to copy handwritten notes or little Johnny's artwork. Forant adds that sharing an everyday moment or a special occasion can help ease the pain of separation.
Qipit transforms physical documents into scan-quality copies that users can securely store, print or conveniently share as digital documents on their computers and online. Qipit's technology automatically removes glare, shadows, distortion and crops the picture resulting in a crisp, clean, highly legible ink-on-white digital document.
"We are always looking for innovative ways for people to use Qipit to help streamline their personal business and communicate with their loved ones," said Conrad Hametner, vice president, consumer marketing for Qipit, Inc. "We are so pleased to collaborate with eMOM to provide this free service to our military families."
Hametner stressed the ease of use of the free service. "Simply create a free account at Qipit.com, take a digital photo of a handwritten or printed document, then email it to Qipit or upload it on the Qipit Web site. Then wait just a few moments while Qipit cleans up the image and converts it to a PDF, then email or fax the PDF, or publish and share it online."
Qipit has created Web site and blog badges to help eMOM promote the service among social networks where military families gather for support. For those who do not have a family member or friend in the military, eMom will match participants with individuals serving in the armed forces, in the tradition of the Any Service Member email and regular mail programs.
About Qipit Qipit turns camera phones and digital cameras into mobile copy centers so people can turn photographs or written and printed materials into scan-quality digital documents they can share and store on the go. Based on advanced, patented image processing technologies developed by Realeyes3D, Qipit provides consumers with convenient communications services that enhance and enable their increasingly mobile lifestyle.
About eMail Our Military eMail Our Military was created in 2001 as a response to the DoD's cancellation of the "Any Service Member" and "Operation Dear Abby" mail programs. A safe alternative, eMOM picked up where these programs left off. eMail Our Military's founder is a military wife, the daughter of a veteran and an avid troop supporter. The organization is composed of volunteers from all walks of life who understand that regardless of our political views, our military service members deserve our respect, support & encouragement.
